How I Began Driving a Car (Post No.2)

There are too many things that we complicate in our lives. I feel there are ways in which we can reduce our burden. However, we don’t do so. One among them is car driving.

I had been riding my bike past 12 years and I was more than happy with that. Driving a four-wheeler was not on my priority list till about last year when I suffered severe back ache. I tried learning to drive before. However, I gave up after I hit a tender coconut stall early in the morning (The damage wasn’t that bad, though.)

After I felt I have become wise with age and time, I again started my quest to learn driving. I started my practice sessions with ‘Me’ again. This time mid-afternoon. The Accelerator, Brake and Clutch (ABCs) mechanism of the car along with the six gear options were as hard to comprehend as the chemical formulas in the higher secondary. Every time I had to change gears (as reminded by ‘Me’) I couldn’t recall the last gear used. Hence, concentrating all the time on the gear box than on the road. After every such session, my belief strengthened that I can't multi-task, at least in this regard.

I almost gave up when I discovered there is a mechanism called automatic transmission. I was elated to know that the ‘C’ was gone along with the entire gear box. Could anyone stop me then? 😈 I enrolled in a driving school and got a hang of the steering and I was ready to take on the roads. ‘Me’ very graciously got me an automatic car and the Government trusted me by providing me with the license.

Now, I drive to work every day. Though I am yet to master the art of parallel parking, I can still manage metro city’s traffic to reach my destination. And, I am quite proud of it. Whoever said women can’t be behind the wheels can take a walk drive. Why depend on someone else when you can own your travel? I urge every woman to try her hand in driving just to feel the confidence and independence. Go for it, ladies. Trust me, it’s liberating.

Happy Driving! 😊

    1. That is your personal opinion. Generalization is the problem in our heads today. Come let me give you a drive around. ☺

  2. ....I precisely love the way you are turning militant on d roads nowadays! ..and we even overtake vehicles off late! Great going! I utterly enjoy our everyday trips...the non-stop bitching we do, getting waylaid for greens (actually food), the curses and the looks we earn from fellow drivers, and...our oh-so-sexy neighbor-rider!!! You do the driving, but I share that liberating feeling!
